SOOOOOOO upset.

There is a girl from back home who is dating/pre-engaged to a new Marine. That part I think is fantastic. The problem I have with it is that her friends and family and friend's families are giving her a hard time for it. They are telling her she is stupid for following a boy around and that leaving would be the dumbest thing she has ever done. WHAT??!!?!?!? Excuse me, but have you ever lived this life? How on earth would you know if this is going to be the dumbest thing she ever does?? You don't!! So keep your mouths shut!! Gosh!

I feel awful. I have tried to boost her confidence with her decision. I obviously went through some obstacles to be where I am today but I did them because I knew that this was what I wanted and it was the best thing I ever did. As far as this girls "friends" go I wish I could smack them. I didn't have a problem with any friends not supporting us. My parent's took a little convincing but they stand behind us. I just told her to follow her gut and if she thinks moving down here to go to college closer to her man then do it! That's the real kicker. She isn't even marrying him right away. She is moving down here to go to college closer to him so they can spend more time together. There is absolutely NOTHING wrong with going to college out of state. BUT unfortunately our hometown is full of a bunch of stiffs who think they are the center of the world.

Is there any advice you think I should give her? I feel like I did a pretty damn good job but I wanted to post about this because of how irritating it is and because there are so many amazing girls out there who have gone through this or are going through this.

Marrying my soulmate was the best decision I have ever made. Follow your hearts girls!!

I Love You Mr. Sykes<3

  1. I believe she is doing nothing wrong. Moving to a different college to be close to him is wonderful! That means they can get to know each other better and she will still be continuing her education. Sounds like the right decision to me

  2. I went through the same thing with my parents (mostly my dad) thinking it was stupid that I wanted to date someone I would rarely ever see. My parents are rarely ever short of an opinion so they will always tell me how horrible of a decision I'm making. I guess if she wants a little but of encouragement, I can handle that.

    She needs to do what SHE wants. She is an adult and she is able to make her own decisions. Parents are there to guide you, not run your life. Sometimes people need to learn through their own experiences whether the decision was right or wrong. Her parents can NOT tell her what to do with HER life. They lived their lives a certain way and now it's time for her to live hers.

    Hope that helps!

  3. being that I am also a marine girlfriend not wife I kind of know EXACTLY what this girl is going through! My man and I were together for 3 years before he joined that marines and so many people acted like when he left I should just move on....uh what?! tell her to keep her head up and at the end of the day ONLY her and him know exactly what their relationship is all about and what is good for them. Also, tell her that she (and him whenever he is home) should just kill everyone with kindness. I know it sounds kind of corny, but you would be amazed how well this works! I guess noone want to talk shit about "the nicest couple out there"!

  4. What? I hate that people are still like that. Argh. I agree with Jordan. She should kill them with kindness and show them that it doesn't matter -what- they thin. That she wants to be with him and will do what it takes. They should be proud of her for being strong enough to stand by a man who won't always be home! asdfjkl;

    People make my head hurt.

    P.S. I sooo thought I told you I was following you! It's that mommy brain... hah.

  5. Ugh, that bugs the mess out of me! Some of my extended family members think the same way. They tell us to just "let it go" when he leaves, but that's where determination and a strong will come in. I agree with Jordan also!
