babysitting

I babysit our friends 2 month old baby boy all day because both his mom and dad are in the marines. He has been crying all day and wont just sleep. Please tell me moms have more patience with their own kids? I guess this is a nice pre game for when our baby comes but man is this little guy wearing me out.

I wish I had magical baby sleep powers.

  1. I promise you it is completely different when it comes to your own kids.

  2. other people's kids are such a handful to me too. I have two kids of my own and I would prefer to watch them for a week straight rather than someone elses one kid, for a day. You have the special touch to put your OWN child at ease. The patience will come, dont worry :)

  4. Oh my. Yes, you DEFINITELY have more patience with your own kid. Brae makes me crazy, but I know (for the most part) how to mellow her out... Other kids make me want to rip my hair out. haha.

  5. I'm really glad to hear that you have more patience with your own kids because I have no patience what so ever with other people kids: reason why I've never really babysat before. Good luck! I'm sure time will go by fast :)

  6. It is definitely easier with your own kids, especially because you will know your baby's special cries...its like twin speak, when twins create their own language! Mommies just understand their own babies so clearly compared with a caregiver. (this is why, after 20 years in the child development field, I strongly recommend that moms stay home with their babies (if at all possible) at least until they are verbal enough to express their needs to other caregivers!

Also, here's a tip for you...most 2 month old babies fall asleep on me because they love my big soft chest....not sure how 'well endowed' you are, but try getting him comfy across your chest, with you kind of halfway reclined. Keep your breathing slow and even (meditate, etc.) and it should help calm him down. It's not 100%, but its pretty darned good!

  7. Ah thank you!! I do plan on being a stay at home mom and thankfully my husband's military career allows me to do that. I figured that mom's intuition would kick in with my own baby. I mean little kids like age 2 and up I am golden. They love me and I love them. But other people's new borns make me nervous.
