You don't cook?

I have a question. Why are there women who don't cook? No wait let me rephrase. Why are there WIVES who don't cook?

It doesn't make sense to me. Do you order out every night for dinner? Or by frozen food that can just be popped in the oven? I am all for the quick dinner like chicken nuggets and fries but I can't imagine eating those every night. I absolutely love cooking. It not only smells delicious in my house every night but we have healthy meals for dinner.

Maybe this is why America has an obesity problem? In previous generations the wives made dinner every night and cooking was a necessary skill. Now we have such fast paced lives that maybe it's just too convenient to grab the Digiorno or call up some chinese.

When you cook a homemade meal you know exactly what you are eating and exactly what is going into your bodies. It feels great to be able to create amazing recipes or recreate favorite recipes. It really is a great skill to have.

When I sent my husband to work with left overs for lunch he actually has guys ask him where he got it from. When he said dinner from the night before that his wife made they are genuinely surprised that I cook for him. Can you believe this?

I don't know. Maybe I am a little old fashioned. I just believe that there should be a home cooked meal on the table whenever possible. I love going out to dinner so doing that once a week or so is great too. I also understand busy schedules and feeling like there isn't time. I had a faced paced childhood with lots of late sports games and dance recitals and my mom still made dinner most nights. We just ate a little later sometimes.

I never cooked as a kid. I watched my mom cook and I always knew that when I got married or lived on my own I would cook too. It's not something that you need to learn as a kid in order to do as an adult. If you can read a recipe you can cook.

So go cook for your man! Make him his favorite dinner and I promise you he will have a new twinkle in his eye. After all, the easiest way to a man's heart is through his tummy!

  1. I seriously have this talk with myself everyday. Natosha doesn't cook. Dan comes home from work and cooks. You should have seen his eyes light up when I asked them over for dinner one night. I know some people dont have TIME to cook...but we don't work...NO EXCUSE!

  2. Hehe Cute post!! I agree, I LOVE to cook for the hubster, it makes me really get into the whole Wifey mood and it's so fulfilling. but at the same time, there are nights when the Hubs wants to cook for me, or we want to go out, or we just want to call in some delivery or want to throw something frozen in the oven. Best of all worlds! I love me some food!

  3. I actually know a lot of wives that don't cook, their husbands do, and they are amazing cooks! A couple of them are nurses and work 12hr shifts so their husbands get home before they do... others work in the event industry so they work evenings... it's all a matter of perspective I guess. As for me... we usually end up cooking dinner together because I only get home from work 30min before he does.

  4. Yea I should have rephrased this. I was talking about the wives who don't cook and their husbands are incapable of cooking as well. I love that husbands will cook for their wives now a days. I should have said spouses don't cook instead.

  5. I have to completely agree! I am not married but I see absolutely no reason for a wife to not cook if they are fully capable of doing it. After Laine and I move to Charlottesville and have our place together I plan on making dinner as often as possible. It saves so much money too!!!! :)

  6. Like Nicole said, Brandon and I flat out don't have time sometimes. I go to school full time and he works full time. I try to cook what I can, as often as I can, but sometimes we're just too busy and it's easier to just do fast food. I don't know how to cook a lot of things, and neither does Brandon, really. I learned a few things before my mom died, but I wish I had learned more.

  7. You're a baker!! You top all cooks out there because baking and decorating is harder than cooking! I envy you seriously. As far as learning to cook it's something you can teach yourself. It's really easy! Just find a recipe you like and have at it! I totally understand when life gets too busy though. Plus, McDonald's fries are just too damn tempting sometimes haha.

  8. I too, see this ALL the time. One time i went to the store with my friend & her husband called and said he wanted mexican. I automatically thought something for tacos (quick and easy right?) Well we never went passed the frozen section as she picked out two mexican tv dinners. seriously?? I LOVE cooking. I love to be able to feed my family great/healthy food. i love the look on my friends husbands faces when i tell them what i made or am making for dinner. Every once in a while we will eat out bc sometimes i just simply don't feel like cooking but its rare. I SO AGREE!!

  9. OMG I have wanted to do a post like this but was sure I would offend someone! LOL! I don't understand how a woman (especially one who doesnt work) doesnt cook dinner. I am proud to say that I make homemade, healthy dinners, about 6 nights a week. And I love doing it! I also bake and decorate all of our birthday cakes myself!!! Seriously...all you women out there...BUY A COOKBOOK!
